statement
“Oftentimes our growth becomes calcified through being ringed around with impermeable layers of selfishness and conceit. There is however within us a power of complete liberation, descending from whatever mind or intelligence lies behind creation, and through it we are capable of becoming anything and doing anything we can visualize.
All this, of course, indicates that we are not psychologically stable, but perhaps it is simply that our provocation is great, so enormous is the creative urge that constantly goads us. For, only one who can say, “I,” is able to cast up pictures within his own being, known to no other. This is because the psychologically sound person is one who takes charge of his own personality, refusing to allow himself to be influenced by the wind, imposing a discipline upon himself predicated upon the goals he wishes to achieve. By doing this, we are enclosed and safe within our central heart, nestling the seeds of perfection, our self-disciple.
Frequently, we expend our wills completely because we see only that which already has been cast up as mental image in our minds, and we see only that which we are. To adapt, it is not recommended that any seeker after truth adopt parachuting as a means to illumination, however there can be no doubt that pushing off from the safety of an airplane into the unknown dangers of the sky is almost exactly like the spiritual step of pushing away from the go and surrendering one’s life to the unknown guidance of the Secret Self. Neglecting to do this, makes it impossible for us to progress into any degree of effective living, for by the very nature of our mental position, the things of the world control us instead of us controlling the things.
Although rare, if we make an exact image of our conscious desire, chances are such a desire was false to begin with, having been accumulated in the subconscious through ego-conflict and social propaganda. For example, people under hypnosis have spoken languages they neither consciously understood nor ever had heard, described in detail places and times where they had never been and could not have conscious knowledge of, literally performed all manner of clairvoyant facts that indicate the amazing powers and scope of the subconscious; and the indisputable evidence is of a single entity only, existing in all persons but the individual property of none. In consequence, one man may want and hold out his hands and this is the greatest effort possible to him.
Glorious is the man and wise indeed who rises to a pinnacle of world prominence and realizes that he has been brought to that point as an instrument, not as a prime mover, that he, himself, has been a servant each foot of the way, that something greater than he has moved in and through him to accomplish the ends that have been credited to him. This faculty is also yours once you have gleaned the existence of the Secret Self and have set about striving to live in accord with it rather than with the surface self that has moved you heretofore. The villain, this limitation, is what we know as surface self, as ego and it is the veil that separates us from knowledge of our vaster nature and true being.
The conflicts and oppositions of the many sides of our surface nature are directly responsible for the prevalence of that psychological disorder called schizophrenia. The surface nature is our first love. For example, if you participate in a test and defeat seems inevitable, you only make it certain by acceding. To be, to become, these are the commandments of evolving life, which is going somewhere, aspiring to some un-scaled heights, and the awakening soul answers the call, seeks, grows, and expands.
We are assured on all sides that hard work makes the successful man, yet we discern almost immediately that hard work sometimes fails of accomplishment while fortune often smiles on the man who seems to make little effort at all.”
